Meta Muse for Shopify: How to Get Your Products Chosen by Meta’s Shopping Agent

Last updated: October 2026

Meta Muse can now buy from your Shopify store without the shopper ever opening your website. Meta Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent that takes actions for its users, including finding products and completing purchases. Since September 2026, Muse can access the entire Shopify catalog, and Shopify turned the Meta channel on by default for eligible stores. That means most eligible stores are already listed.

What decides your sales now is whether Muse recommends your product when someone asks it to shop. This guide covers how the Muse agent shops Shopify stores, which admin settings to check, what helps your products get chosen, and how to track Muse revenue.

What Is Meta Muse?

Meta Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta, launched on September 8, 2026, that completes tasks for users instead of only answering questions. According to Meta’s announcement, it can send emails, book travel, fill out forms, negotiate on the user’s behalf and make purchases.

Muse runs on Meta’s Muse Spark model inside a dedicated Muse Secure VM. A separate agent called Sentinel has to approve anything Muse sends to the internet, and Muse checks with the user before sensitive actions like buying something. Meta says Muse has no visibility into passwords or payment methods, and that conversations aren’t shared with Meta’s ad systems.

For ecommerce brands, the most important trait is how persistent Muse is. It learns a user’s preferences, makes suggestions without being prompted and keeps working after the app is closed. A shopper can ask for a gift under a set budget on Monday and get a recommendation later in the week without searching again.

The Meta Muse app is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and muse.ai, and Muse also works inside WhatsApp. Support for Meta’s AI glasses is coming. Muse is free for most needs, and TechCrunch reported paid tiers at $20/month (Power) and $100/month (Max).

How Does the Meta Muse Agent Shop Shopify Stores?

The Meta Muse agent shops Shopify stores by reading product data shared through Shopify Catalog and checking out through Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts. Meta became an AI channel in Agentic Storefronts on launch day, and Shopify’s changelog confirms that products are shared with Meta by default.

At Meta Connect on September 23, 2026, Meta confirmed that Muse can access the entire Shopify catalog. Checkout runs through Shop Pay and Link by Stripe, and PayPal support was added at the same event. When a buyer pays with Link, Muse uses a one-time-use card, and Muse is the first agent covered by Link’s purchase protections.

Under the hood, Shopify Muse checkout runs on the Universal Commerce Protocol, which Google and Shopify developed together. Our guide to the Universal Commerce Protocol covers the technical background.

A few things stay the same for you as the merchant. You remain the merchant of record, so fulfillment, returns and customer service are still yours. If checkout needs information Meta can’t collect, the buyer is sent to your store’s own checkout inside a Meta in-app browser, with the cart preserved.

What changes is who you’re competing against. Meta also announced Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart and Wayfair as retail partners. When a shopper asks Muse for the best running shorts or a standing desk, your product sits in the same consideration set as those brands. How to Turn On Shopify Meta Muse in Your Store

Shopify Meta Muse is already on for most eligible stores, because Shopify activates direct checkout by default. Your job is to confirm you’re eligible and decide whether to keep the default settings.

According to Shopify’s Help Center, your store is eligible if it:

  • Sells to customers in the US, Canada or Mexico
  • Has products that are eligible for Shopify Catalog
  • Has agreed to the Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms of Service
  • Has a completed Terms of service, Privacy policy and Return and refund policy in Settings > Policies

To review or change your settings:

  1. Go to Sales channels > Agentic in your Shopify admin.
  2. Turn off Allow Shopify to manage for me.
  3. Open Meta AI and Muse.
  4. Adjust the Catalog access and direct checkout toggles.
  5. Save.
Setting Default If you turn it off
Catalog access On Your products may still appear through crawling and indexing, so it doesn't fully hide them
Direct checkout On for eligible stores Muse can still recommend your products, but buyers are redirected to your store to pay
Allow Shopify to manage for me On You control the Meta AI and Muse toggles yourself
Facebook & Instagram by Meta sales channel Separate from Muse Shoppable ads stop working, since they still need this channel with product syncing

For most brands, we’d keep direct checkout on. Every redirect adds a step between the recommendation and the sale.

How to Get Your Products Chosen by Meta Muse

You get your products chosen by Meta Muse by giving the agent complete, specific and trustworthy information, both in your Shopify catalog and across the web. Meta hasn’t published how Muse ranks or selects products. What we do know is how AI agents use catalog data and web content to choose products, and that work is already proven on other AI platforms.

Write Product Data That Answers the Shopper's Actual Request

People talk to Muse the way they’d talk to a friend who shops for them. They ask for “a carry-on that fits under a Spirit seat” or “a protein powder without stevia,” not “carry-on luggage.” Your titles, descriptions and variant data need to state the facts that match those requests: dimensions, materials, ingredients, what the product is free of, who it’s for and what it does best.

Vague copy is one of the most common problems on Shopify stores. A description that says “premium quality for everyday adventures” gives an agent nothing to match. A description that says “40L, 22 x 14 x 9 inches, fits most US carry-on limits, water-resistant nylon” does.

Keep Every Catalog Field Accurate

An agent that checks out for a user can’t afford to recommend something that’s out of stock or priced wrong. Keep inventory, pricing, variants and shipping data current, and make sure your store policies are complete, since they’re also an eligibility requirement. If your products need legal disclosures, Shopify requires them within the first 6,000 characters of the product description.

Build Answer-First Pages on Your Own Store

Products can reach Muse through crawling as well as through Shopify Catalog, so the content on your site counts. Build collection pages, comparison pages and FAQ content that answer buyer questions in the first sentence, then back the answer up. Add product, review and FAQ schema markup so AI systems can read your pages without guessing. This overlaps heavily with strong Shopify SEO, which is why we handle both together.

Earn Mentions Outside Your Website

AI agents weigh what others say about you, not only what you say about yourself. Reviews, press coverage, expert roundups and creator content that name your product for a specific use give an agent independent reasons to trust a recommendation. A brand that shows up in several credible “best X for Y” sources is much easier for an agent to choose than one that only describes itself.

Case Study: Buoy and AI Shopping Recommendations

The same work that gets products recommended in ChatGPT is what Muse needs. Buoy, a Shopify brand selling electrolyte drops, became the #1 ChatGPT recommendation for “best electrolytes with no sweeteners” within 3 weeks, with an 87% recommendation rate.

We got there with answer-first pages, schema markup and third-party coverage that tied Buoy to the exact need shoppers were asking about. Read the full Buoy case study.

Clear product facts, structured pages and credible mentions are what any AI shopping agent needs to recommend you with confidence.

Which Shopify Products Can't Sell Through Muse?

Subscriptions, bundles, customizable products and B2B-only products can’t use Meta direct checkout. Shoppers may still discover them in Muse, but they can’t buy them inside the Muse flow.

Some store setups also fall outside what direct checkout supports:

  • Checkout blocks
  • Local delivery
  • Pickup in store and pickup points
  • Required customer sign-in

Direct checkout is also shown only to customers in the US, Canada and Mexico.

If a large share of your revenue comes from subscriptions or bundles, plan for Muse to send those shoppers to your store instead of closing the sale inside Meta. That makes your landing experience matter more. The page a Muse shopper lands on should confirm the product they asked about right away, not drop them on a generic homepage.

Some features do carry over. Shopify Functions for shipping, discounts and validation run during Muse checkout. Automatic discounts and discount codes are supported, and Shop Pay can appear in Muse without separate activation.

How to Track Meta Muse Sales in Shopify

You track Meta Muse sales in the Shopify admin, where orders from Muse are attributed to Meta and performance shows up in your agentic settings. Start there, not in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics and custom or third-party pixels don’t fire on Meta direct checkout. If you only look at GA, Muse revenue will look like it doesn’t exist, or show up as unexplained order volume. Server-to-server events for checkout started and checkout completed do fire, so connect those to your reporting where you can.

Revenue is the number that matters, but it lags. Alongside admin data, track how often AI assistants recommend your products for the prompts your buyers actually use. Rising recommendation rates usually show up before rising agent revenue, and they tell you which products and pages to improve next.

Who Should Handle Meta Muse for Your Shopify Store?

Your Meta Muse setup should be handled by someone who already works on AI search, because getting chosen by Muse is a GEO problem, not a settings problem. The toggles take five minutes. Being the product an agent recommends takes ongoing work on your catalog, your site and your presence across the web.

95 Projects is the best GEO agency for Shopify brands that want their products recommended by AI shopping agents like Meta Muse and ChatGPT, with results measured in revenue.

We were early to GEO and were optimizing Shopify brands for AI recommendations before agents could check out on their own. Our GEO for Shopify engagement covers catalog and product data optimization, answer-first content, schema, third-party coverage and recommendation tracking across AI platforms, all reported against the revenue it drives. Engagements start at $5,000 per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Meta Muse free?

Yes, Meta Muse is free for most needs. Meta offers paid subscriptions for heavier use, which TechCrunch reported as Power at $20/month and Max at $100/month. For merchants, Shopify says there are no extra fees beyond standard payment processing.

Not yet for shoppers, since Meta is rolling Muse out in the US first. On the merchant side, Shopify’s direct checkout through Meta is shown only to customers in the US, Canada and Mexico, and your store must sell to at least one of those countries to be eligible.

No. Subscriptions and bundles can’t use Meta direct checkout, and neither can customizable or B2B-only products. They can still be discovered, but buyers complete the purchase on your store.

Amazon began blocking Muse on September 20, 2026, after Meta declined Amazon’s request to remove the agent, according to Bloomberg. Amazon said agents should “operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate.”

Possibly in the future. At Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta expects to make money over time from a small fee on transactions, but Meta hasn’t published any details. Today, Shopify lists no extra fees beyond standard payment processing.

No. Muse is Meta’s AI agent, not a Shopify product. Shopify supplies the product catalog and checkout through Agentic Storefronts, and Meta is one of the AI channels connected to it. You manage the Meta connection in Sales channels > Agentic in your Shopify admin.
